    Court slams N150,000 bail on accused over alleged theft of N54, 000

    An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday slammed a N150, 000 bail on a 33-year-old man, Akintunde Jayeola, over alleged theft of a pair of sandals and cash valued at N54,000.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Folashade Ajayi, also granted the accused two sureties in like sum.

    Ajayi said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction as part of the bail conditions.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Adebayo Ayorinde, told the court that the accused stole a pair of sandals valued at N1, 500 and N53, 000.

    Ayorinde said the accused committed the offence on March 30 at about 9.30 a.m. at N0.1, Familusi St., Gaga in Oke-Aro area of Ondo capital.

    He said the offence contravened Sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    Counsel to the accused, Mr Kehinde Balogun, urged the court to grant him bail.

    Further hearing has been fixed for April 22.
