NAN reports that Gujba and Gulani local government areas which were under the control of the insurgents have been recaptured by the military.
Malam Bukar Goni, a civil servant who relocated to Kano, said he returned his family to Damaturu as security in the area had improved.
“The attacks of Dec. 1, 2014 and Jan. 9 2015, forced many families in Damaturu to relocate to other places.
“If you had come to Obasanjo and Nyanya quarters in Damaturu between January and March this year, you would assume you were in a grave yard because the areas were completely deserted.
“We thank God for our security forces who gave us confidence to return,” Goni said.
A housewife, Hajiya Hamsatu Usman, said:“ The attacks on Damaturu were intensified by the insurgents. So, we had to relocate, but we are now back for good”.
Alhaji Usman Adamu said he and his family returned to Damaturu “immediately the troops recaptured Gujba, Gulani and Goniri, and so, we came back.”
“We also participated in the Presidential and National Assembly elections which were conducted peacefully throughout the state; we thank God,” Adamu said.
They expressed optimism that the incoming administration would intensify the fight against insurgency. (NAN)
