The Director-General, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Prof. Osita Oshita has urged Nigerians to remain calm and peaceful during the April 11 governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
Oshita said this on Wednesday in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“The IPCR would like to enjoin all parties and other stakeholders to continue to be peaceful before, during and after the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections,’’ he said.
He urged Nigerians to always show love and tolerance for one another, saying that “no nation prospered and developed without love, tolerance and peace among its people.”
He said the institute would continue to preach peace as it contribution towards fostering the nation’s social and economic development.
He also urged all security agencies to ensure adequate protection of lives and property during the election.
IPCR has the mandate of building peace, preventing violent conflicts and promoting conditions conducive for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
Since its establishment in year 2000, it has been involved in the development of and implementation of research and intervention programmes aimed at achieving its mandates. (NAN)
