Etsu Nupe urges Nigerians to live in peace

Date:

The Etsu of Nupe, in Niger, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to live in unity and tolerate one another irrespective of religion, political affiliation or ethnicity.
Abubakar made the call while receiving members of the Salam Islamic Society on a visit to his Wadata palace in Bida on Sunday.
He said without peace and tolerance, Nigeria’s socio-economic development would continue to suffer set back.
The monarch, who is also the Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, said that there was the need for Nigerians to continue to tolerate one another so as to move the country forward.
“Nigerians are free to live in any part of the country; the nation belongs to all of us, and as Nigerians, we must be our brother’s keeper while striving to be continuously patriotic.
“Nigeria has great potential, our diversity must be our source of strength; people must learn to tolerate and get along with one another.
“History has shown that countries that make progress are communities that live in peace with each other” he said.
He promised to support the group to propagate Islam and promote peace and unity among Nigerians.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Alhaji Abdulkareem Ayelabowo, had said that their visit was to receive royal blessing and be close to the monarch, as they planned to open a branch in Bida.
Ayelabowo said that Islam was a religion of peace, and appealed to Nigeria leaders to use religion as tool to foster unity, peace and harmonious coexistence.
“The two major religions in the world, Islam and Christianity are preaching peace, and we must join hands together to promote unity in Nigeria,’’ he said.‎
He explained that the mission of the group was to foster unity among Nigerians irrespective of their religion and political affiliation. (NAN)
