The Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), says the state’s local government election held on Saturday, March 12, were free, fair and credible.
The party in a statement issued on Monday in Sokoto by the Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sidi Aliyu, said the poll met national and international standards.
The party was reacting to the position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, that rejected the outcome of the poll, and described it as a “charade.”
The PDP had in a statement signed by the State Secretary, Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu, alleged that the poll was rigged and marred by irregularities.
Reacting, the APC pointed out that observers, who monitored the election, had adjudged it as free, fair and credible
”The State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), deserves commendation from all stakeholders for maintaining its integrity throughout the preparations and the eventual conduct of the election
”The Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, should also be commended for providing the enabling environment for the SIEC to conduct the election without any hitch
”There was no incident of intimidation or harassment of party agents or supporters in any local government before, during and after the elections,” the statement further claimed.
NAN reports that the APC won all the 22 local government chairmanship seats and 234 councillorship seats declared.
Election was postponed in Gudu Local Government following the omission of PDP’s logo in the ballot papers. (NAN)
