The Enugu State Government says it has uncovered 3,916 ghost workers in the 17 local government council areas of the state.
An audit panel set up to conduct staff audit through biometric capturing said this Wednesday while presenting its report to the governor.
The chairman of the panel and speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi, also disclosed that N161. 5 million was found to be the difference in the wage bill after the exercise.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi commended the audit panel for its job and said it would go a long way in helping the state government curb fraud in the civil service.
The committee recommended the sacking of all staff found to have falsified their ages, those incapacitated by ill health, and those employed contrary to civil service rules.
