Omotayo told his guest that most of the platforms and other vital facilities produced by AOS were not patronised by the industry players. The trend notwithstanding, Omotayo said that AOS would continue to exploit the opportunities and value retention in-country in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

In a statement the company issued after Wabote’s visit, Omotayo was quoted as saying that “the key words I would like the NCDMB Executive Secretary and operators to take away from this visit are “commitment” and “confidence.”

He stressed that it was the confidence his company had in the Nigerian content initiative as it then was 20 years ago that led his management to commit to continuously investing in in-country capacity to a point where AOS Orwell is now acclaimed for a series of firsts among indigenous oilfield players.

According to him, AOS Orwell was the first to open Conductor Casing Threading and Welding Shop in Nigeria, first skid fabrication, first National Oil Varco (NOV) certified drilling jar service shop, first EXIDA certified cabinet manufacturing plant, the first to launch casing drive systems, first Fisher approved valve servicing centre, first machine shop, and Oil Country Tubular Good (OCTG) manufacturing, adding that all the welders in the workshop are FMC Technology certified.

Wabote, who was accompanied on the visit by a number of operators in the industry, commended Omotayo and his management team for the level of investment and in-country capacity.

He said that he was impressed with the equipment and facilities on ground, adding that he embarked on the facility visit to enable him understand the challenges and prospects of the local companies in the sector.

Wabote promised that he would work with all stakeholders/operators and servicing companies alike to bring down the per barrel and per unit technical cost in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
