The 40-year old Buhari had over the weekend made a formal public declaration in Abuja attended by a mammoth crowd of over 4,000 Nigerians especially the youths.

At the declaration, he officially announced his intention to contest under the platform of PDP, the main opposition party.

Defending his decision to join the PDP on his official twitter handle @OfficialAhmedB, he said it would be difficult to defeat the incumbent under a relatively unknown party platform.

He said, “My decision to join @OfficialPDPNig was after collective realistic calculations. It is a demonstration of how serious we are. We want to work with a party that has structures in all the states of the country. To defeat the incumbent, one needs a party with these attributes.

“Some folks have come up to say they thought we would be different yet we are aligning with a corruption infested failed party. In reality, we need everyone on board this course to reposition Nigeria. We need to retrace our steps both as a party and nation to realise our goals”.

Buhari, who is the CEO of Skylar Inc., an ICT firm based in Lagos, urged members and supporters of PDP to close rank in order to collectively defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Nigerians for who we are will think of us as a bunch of distraction and attention-seeking clowns if we choose to work with a party without experience or presence nationwide. If all the members and supporters of PDP close ranks and challenge the ruling party, we can succeed”, he added.

The presidential hopeful explained that his three priorities when elected would be to ensure a “United Country, secure Country, “decentralised system of government and economic leverage”.
