One of the aspirants in the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary in Kwara State, Alhaji Shuaib Abdullah Yaman has raised the alarm over some irregularities being perpetrated in the collation of results of the exercise.
He said some abnormalities were being perpetrated by electoral officers in the just concluded governorship primaries of the party aimed at imposing an unpopular aspirant as the winner of the polls.
According to a statement from his campaign office, It was discovered that contrary to the due process of ensuring that collations and entries of aspirants’ scores on official result take place at the various ward levels before proceeding to the local government collation centres and finally to the state collation centre, results were unofficially written on sheets of papers in some wards while local government collation centre were boycotted.
“Unsigned results are taken from ward collation centres directly to the state collation centres thereby violating electoral processes. In Baruten, no election was conducted while the former Minister for Transportation, Alhaji Bio Ibrahim, ordered that figures be allocated to aspirants unduly.
“This act is not only condemnable, it is also barbaric and undemocratic in the face of the masses who have throng out in large numbers to choose their governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming general election,” he said.
He added that the Saturday primaries have demonstrated the acceptability of Alhaji Shuaibu Yaman Abdullahi as the people’s choice for the 2019 gubernatorial race on the platform of the APC in Kwara State.
He therefore, urged the electoral officers to toe the path of honour and respect the opinion of the electorates by adopting democratic tenets in declaring the winner of the poll.
