Average Intercity Bus Fare Increased By 0.24% MoM – NBS

The Transport fare watch report for October 2018 covers the following categories namely bus journey within the city per drop constant route ; bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person; air fare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and water way passenger transport.

Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey within the city increased by 4.18% month-on-month and 50. 31% year-on-year to N193.21 in October 2018 from N185.47 in September 2018. States with highest bus journey fare within city were Abuja FCT (N400.00), Cross River (N325.71) and Abia (N275.00) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Rivers (N133.85), Anambra (N104.00) and Bauchi (N120.00).

Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity increased by 0.24% month-on-month and increased by 19.60% year-on-year to N1,818.12 in October 2018 from N1,813.77 in September 2018. States with highest bus journey fare intercity were Abuja FCT (N4,666.67), Adamawa (N3,328.57) and Borno (N2,800.00) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Bayelsa (N1,233.33), Enugu (N1,177.50) and Bauchi (N1,157.14).

Average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey decreased by -0.79% month-on-month and by -0.81% year-on-year to N32,122.76 in October 2018 from N32,378.92 in September 2018. States with highest air fare were Lagos (N40,000.00), Abuja FCT (N39,000.00) and Jigawa (N39,000.00) while States with lowest air fare were Oyo (N24,000.00), Taraba (N25,000.00), and Osun (N25,000.00).

Average fare paid by commuters for journey by motorcycle per drop increased by 8.84% month-on-month and 35.67% year-on-year to N129.56 in October 2018 from N119.04 in September 2018. States with highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Ogun (N210.59), Ondo (N208.42) and Rivers (N200.00) while states with lowest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Adamawa (N70.00) Jigawa (N76.75) and Kaduna (N82.00).

Average fare paid by passengers for water way passenger transport increased by 1.49% month-on-month and 3.81% year-on-year to N604.36 in October 2018 from N595.51 in September 2018. States with highest fare by water way passenger transport were Bayelsa (N2,125.00), Akwa Ibom (N2,125.00) and Rivers (N1,666.67) while states with lowest fare by water way passenger transport were Borno (N150.00), Gombe (N200.00) and Kebbi (N255.00).
