    Hypoglycemia: the cause, symptoms and cure

    Most of the time what we hear about is high level of blood sugar( Diabetes) but do you just the way the blood sugar can be high it can also be too low?.

    Hypoglycemia also known as low blood sugar is very dangerous and it happens when the amount of blood sugar(glucose) drops to a level that’s too low to sustain normal functioning of the body, which is usually below 70mg/dl.

    Blood sugar also known as glucose comes from the food we eat and serves as an important source of energy for the body and when it falls too low, the body does not have enough energy to function fully. Carbohydrates are the body’s main source of glucose, Insulin which is an enzyme produced in the pancreas helps the body to absorb sugar into the blood stream, some people’s body does not produce adequate insulin which could lead to Type 1 Diabetes, people with Type 1 diabetes are often prone to low blood sugar since they have to take in Insulin most of the time which now sometimes control the blood sugar to the extent that it gets too low. Though people with Type 1 diabetes mostly come down with low blood sugar people without any form of diabetes could also have it and the following could lead to it
    Causes of hypoglycemia without diabetes
    1. Excessive intake of alcohol
    2. Side effect of some medications(antimalarial, antibiotics)
    3. Inadequate feeding
    4. Hepatitis
    5. Kidney problems
    6. Pancreatic tumor
    Mosthe times low blood sugar normally give symptoms it’s just left for the individual to be observant enough and take prompt healthy intervention, some of the symptoms include,
    Symptoms of hypoglycemia
    1. Feeling shaky
    2. Dizziness
    3. Inability to concentrate
    4. Excessive hunger
    5. Inability to focus eyes
    If you are having any of the above listed symptoms see a doctor so that a blood sugar test can be recommended even if you are not, it’s best to always check your blood sugar regularly, checking it doesn’t cost much some places even do the test for as low as #500 and if you stay in Lagos good for you because there is an ongoing program by the Lagos state government on free blood sugar check up at various health centres which is totally free. Don’t wait till you start having symptoms check you blood sugar regularly so you can curb whatever health implication is coming your way early enough.

    The underlying cause will determine the treatment and any form of treatment prescribed ensure you adhere religiously so as to improve tour health status.
