Mr Andrew Okojie, Business Manager, BEDC, Akure, on Tuesday said that the donation was in furtherance of the company’s corporate social responsibility campaign of promoting good hand washing hygiene, as a means of eradicating the novel coronavirus in the society.

According to him, the Deji of Akure’s palace is a strategic public place of interest that receives a lot of visitors daily, which is the reason the company decided to place the hand washing machine there.

“As a concerned company, we want everyone coming here to be safe, just as we want our revered monarch and every member of the palace to be safe.

“With regular hand washing hygiene which we are promoting with these machines, we all can defeat the coronavirus pandemic.

“This hand washing machine donation is a continuation of our support for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

“Earlier around April during the lockdown, BEDC donated 6,000 bags of rice and 4,000 cartons of Indomie noodles to the governments of Ondo, Ekiti, Edo and Delta,” he said.

Okojie stated that the company had, earlier in the day, donated similar hand washing machines to Akure Shopping Mall, Mother and Child Hospital and Shoprite.

“More donations would be made to places of public interest across the state, to promote hand washing hygiene,” he said.

Mr Michael Adeyeye, Personal Assistant to the Deji of Akure, received the hand washing machine on behalf of the monarch.

Adeyeye expressed the palace’s appreciation to BEDC, for living up to their social responsibility in the society.

“The Deji has been at the forefront campaigning for the reduction of the spread of the virus, especially the community transmission of coronavirus, and one of the things the NCDC has kept telling us is to wash our hands regularly.

“The palace really wants to appreciate the BEDC for deeming it fit and following in that direction of the campaign of donating this hand washing machine,” he said.
