Jigawa govt. disburses N961m to 487 retirees

Dutse, Oct. 6, 2020 The Jigawa government says it has commenced payment of retirement benefits to no fewer than 487 retirees, two months after their disengagement from service.

Alhaji Ahmed Fagam, the Executive Secretary, Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board, said this on Tuesday in Dutse.
He said the board had commenced the disbursement of over N961 million as entitlements to 487 state and local government retirees.

Fagam said that the beneficiaries were those who retired from the state and local government services between July and September, including those from the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
He explained that the payment comprised retirement benefits, death benefits and death pension balance.
According to the executive secretary, 175 of the beneficiaries are from state service, 138 from local government service and 174 from LEAs.
“The total amount to be paid is N961,563,076.38 to 487 beneficiaries from the state, local governments and LEAs,” he said.
Fagam said that 175 beneficiaries from the state service would be paid N443,344,054.45, 138 from local governments, N187,595,477.38, while 174 beneficiaries from LEAs would receive N330,623,544.55.
“We are up-to-date in the payment of entitlements to retirees, including those who died in active service.
“The state government and the board will continue to ensure prompt payment of pension and other entitlements to their workers for better service delivery, wellbeing of retirees and fulfilled life after service,” Fagam said.
