Lagos, Oct. 15, 2020 The Lagos Branch, Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), has announced its upcoming 29th Builders Conference with the aim of resolving all issues of housing construction, development, regulation and building collapses in Lagos and Nigeria.

Mr Owolabi Ayoola, Committee Chairman, ’29th Lagos Builders Conference’, speaking at a news conference on Thursday, said that the association was bent on ending the menace of building collapses in Lagos and Nigeria.

While unveiling the programme of the conference and its Annual General Meeting (AGM) with the theme “Safe and Sustainable Buildings in Lagos State: Implementation Strategy for Lagos Physical Development Laws and Regulations”; Ayoola stressed that the theme was apt.

While listing reputable stakeholders from the ‘Built Environment’ and speakers expected at the event to hold on Oct. 22, he identified proper regulation and political will of government as measures needed to end incessant building collapses.

He said the stakeholders from the built environment would educate participants and the public at the virtual/live programme, aimed to proffer solutions to safe sustainable building issues, which should be a collective effort.

He listed the objectives of the conference to include effective collaboration with regulating agencies of government, educating stakeholders and public on safety processes in line with COVID-19 regulations.

Ayoola noted other objectives to include equipping stakeholders, participants and public with legal and safe investment knowledge to effectively handle various aspects of building construction and transactions.

“This conference shall provide practitioners, developers and all stakeholders with the benefit of insurance needs to building development project and secure their investments against unforeseen and unpleasant occurrences,” he said.

He praised the Lagos State Government for enacting more laws and regulations to strengthen enforcement and involvement of professionals in arresting building collapses.

Ayoola joined by other members of the committee as well as the branch Chairman, Mr Sunday Wusu, took turns to praise the state government for enacting insurance policy law for properties with more than two floors.

They argued that insurance would reduce the menace of construction failure, encourage use of professional builders and prevent loss of investments to owners of houses as well as force developers to build right.
