Ilorin, Nov. 3, 2020 A medical expert, Dr Adedayo Aderibigbe has expressed concern over the low awareness in Nigeria about round the dreaded hepatitis B virus.
Aderibigbe, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kwara chapter, expressed his worry in a presentation entitled “Living a Healthy Life” at a programme to mark the 2020 Press Week of the Kwara NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel.
The medical practitioner said that hepatitis B virus was more dangerous that the most talked-about HIV, but yet the needed awareness was not created around the disease.
He described the disease as a viral infection that had no cure.
“The only way to manage it is to be detected earlier and it can be spread through sweat, kissing of hepatitis B patient with sore mouth”, he said, adding that people should go for test and get vaccinated, if tested negative.
This vaccine, he said, was cheap and available.
