Awka, Nov. 4, 2020 Mr Jude Nwankwo, the Project Manager of Anambra Agricultural Development Programme (ADP), has called on farmers to support government’s efforts to mitigate the heavy impact of flooding in the state.

Nwankwo made the call in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Wednesday.

He regretted that Anambra was prone to flood and erosion, adding that the challenge was enormous to be left for the government alone to tackle.

He encouraged them to utilise traditional methods of erosion control to check the phenomenon.

He said: “Our farmers should also contribute their own quota by digging catchment pits, clearing flood channels and planting trees, among other methods.

“We know that farmers are industrious. We also need them to engage in erosion control in their own way to boost their morale to cultivate more.”

The state ADP boss also sought for more Federal Government’s interventions in mitigating the effects of flood and erosion in the state.

“Federal Government should come to the assistance of our hinterlands, where we have a lot of flood and erosion ravaging farmlands,” he said.

He expressed delight that Anambra had experienced an increase in grain production since the inception of the present administration in the state and called for its sustenance.

“We have currently grown our grains production from 80,000 metric tonnes before Gov. Willie Obiano’s government to 300,000 tonnes.

“The governor has also invited big time players in grain production to the state, which will soon be noticed as cultivation will soon commence,” he said
