Ilorin, Jan. 13, 2021 The Kwara Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has given operators of commercial vehicles and car owners a two- week ultimatum to stop parking in unauthorised places in llorin, the state capital.
The KWARTMA Chief Executive Officer, Mr AbdulYekeen Bello, gave the directive in an interview with newsmen in llorin on Wednesday.
Bello said that the agency had held a stakeholders’ meeting with transport unions and other road users to ensure compliance.
He added that the ultimatum was based on the directive of the state House of Assembly to ensure that all major roads in the state capital were free for motorists and pedestrians.
Bello warned residents of the state, who were fond of displaying wares on pedestrians’ ways, to vacate before the expiration of the ultimatum.
The agency`s boss also directed shop owners, who put planks in front of their shops in some parts of the metropolis, to remove them before the expiration of the ultimatum.
He directed commercial transport operators in the state capital to vacate the main roads and move to designated motor parks.
In his reaction, the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, Alhaji AbdulRasaq Ariwo, said members of the union were being mobilised to meet the deadline.
