Ilevebare told journalists on Thursday in Ado Ekiti that the days of men giving flimsy excuses and saying that “I don’t know what came over me” or “it is the work of the devil” are over and not acceptable anymore.

She noted that yes, the perpetrator might be sorry, but sorry would not take the place of accountability.

“All sexual violators must be held accountable for their actions, hence, say no to sexual violence and rapists must also be held accountable, the gender activist said.

Ilevebare also warned fathers that when it was said that they should get involved in the lives of their children, it was not an avenue to start checking your female children’s virginity.

“Be guided that checking children’s virginity is child abuse,” adding: “Some fathers now hide under checking virginity to defile their daughters.
