Rumuokwuta (Rivers), Jan. 18, 2021 Special Adviser to Gov. Nyesom Wike, on Real Madrid Football Academy, Chris Green, says candidates undergoing screening must meet the criteria for academics and footballing to be qualified for admission.
Green, who stated this, on Monday, at the venue of the screening, Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, added that there would be a level playing field for all candidates, and the process made transparently.
“There’s no favouritism in the process, as it is not for the high or low but for everybody as long as the candidate meets the academy’s criteria.
“As long as you do well in academics, as well as in the art of footballing, you will be screened under the same atmosphere and condition with every body,” he said.
“There will be no influence, the result will be announced immediately, as parents and guardians will be allowed to come and see their wards play.
“If you see your child play, you will tell yourself that this child is playing very well, and if the child is not doing very well, the parent will also know,” Green said.
The Special Adviser echoed the Governor’s warning that the ground must be leveled for everyone, without any favouritism, allowing only those that met the mark to be admitted.
He said the Academy’s facilities were limited when compared to the number of candidates that applied for the screening, but that representations would be made to the governor for expansion to accommodate more candidates.
Green described the football academy as a deliberate plan by the Rivers Governor to provide an opportunity to excel by Rivers and Nigerian youths..
“With the academy, he has secured the future of our youths in human capacity development, job creation, wealth creation, among others
“The Real Madrid Football Academy idea can never be wrong because, if you don’t make it in footballing, you can make it in academics; it’s a win-win situation,” he said.
Green also disclosed that candidates from across Nigeria were participating in the screening, because of the quality of the facility as the best in the country.
