Benin, Jan. 28, 2020 Glory Ogbonna, Team Captain of Edo Queens FC, says the Benin darling club will finish tops of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) to secure the ticket for the African Women Champions League.
Ogbonna spoke with newsmen shortly after the Women Premier league side’s training in Benin on Thursday.
According to her, we are doing very well in camp. I want to use this opportunity to thank the management of the team for their fatherly care.
“The Governor and the Deputy and all members of the management team have been so nice to us, there is high level of concern for the welfare of the players.
“So, on our part, we are committed toward making sure that our dream of representing Edo at the African Women Champions League is realised.
“The NWFL has just started; we were about to play our fifth league match against Nasarawa Amazons when the leadership of the NWFL board gave one month break to enable all participating clubs time to comply with the COVID-19 directives.
“We are committed and ready to do our very best as soon as we resume,” she told NAN.
“Again, I want to use this medium to appeal to all our fans across the country, not to judge Edo Queens FC with just four games.
“Before the league came to a halt, Edo Queens have maintained an unbeaten run, and we hope to continue with it.”
Ogbonna said that by the special grace of God, Edo Queens would definitely bounce back to the top because that has been our dream.
“My teammates are aware of the interest the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has in Edo Queens; so, it is very important for the players to continue to pursue the dream.”
