Ado-Ekiti, Feb. 3, 2021 The maiden edition of the late Oba Ademola Ajakaiye Under-13 Football Cup Competition in Ekiti has been scheduled to begin later this month at the local government level.
The Chairman of the competition’s Organising Committee, Q’ozeem Oladapo, said on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti that the state finals were being expected to begin early in March.
“The grand final has been tentatively slated for March 31, to coincide with the post-humous birthday of the late Oba Ademola Ajakaiye, who was the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti.”
He added that the coast was becoming clearer for the kick-off of the maiden competition.
“The picture of the competition’s giant trophy, which was purchased in the UK by the town’s immediate-past regent who is also the event’s sponsor, Princess Jackie Ajakaiye-Okarevu, was a marvel.
“The trophy is one of the best in terms of quality, size and attraction across the country.
“The gesture was to show the organisers of the competition that the royal family was solidly behind them and assure them that all necessary support will be given to ensure the success of the competition,” Oladapo stated.
He disclosed that the competition’s sponsor has assured that the trophy would arrive in Nigeria very soon.
The organising committee chairman commended the Ekiti Football Association (FA) for creating platforms for young football players to thrive in the state.
