Abuja, Feb. 5, 2021 National U-17 Boys Cricket defending champions, North West, has qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing championships, after whacking South West by 43 runs on Friday, at the Edo Boys High School, Adolor, Benin.
In the match, North West won the toss and elected to bat against South West, scoring 117 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 30 overs, as against the South West’s 74 runs with all wickets out in 19.5 overs, handing over a run-away win to the North West by 43 runs.
Boniface Kenneth of North West also emerged as the player of the match.
Meanwhile, in the second match of the day between South East and South West, both in Group A, South West opted to field, after winning the toss. South East scored 96 runs, all out in 24.1 overs.
South West came on in the second innings and scored 97 runs for the loss of three wickets in 23 overs, winning the game by seven wickets.
On Thursday, North West had defeated fellow Group A contender, South East, by five wickets
The results meant that North West had set up a semi-final clash against North Central, who were runners-up in Group B, as South South, who led that group, would square up against South West in the second semi-final clash.
Naija247news reports that five teams, representing five geopolitical zones, except the North East, are participating in the championship.
According to Taiwo Oriss, Secretary General, Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), the North East was not participation, due to the insecurity in the region.
The tournament, which started on Thursday, is expected to end on Sunday.
